PositionSummary
The Director of Finance is a full‑time, exempt position responsible for daily financial, accounting and business operations tasks to ensure the company’s financials, budgeting and regulatory processes are timely and accurate. While we are a nonprofit organization, we do operate with earned income using project‑based accounting in our planning, construction and signage teams. This role will work to ensure IMBA’s long‑term financial health, growth, and strategic planning for IMBA’s mission.
Key duties include fundraising strategy, grant management oversight, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, risk management, as a member of our Executive leadership team advising the CEO & Board and working with major donors, foundations, auditors, and ensuring financial alignment with mission goals.
- Lead the annual organization planning and budgeting process independently.
- Develop, track, and evolve operating and results financial metrics tied to strategic goals.
- Evaluate and evolve financial systems and tools.
- Lead small cross‑functional project teams.
- Supervise small staff.
- Demonstrate empathy for the challenges of various departments and functions.
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Manage accounting processes ensuring sound fiscal management, compliance, and accurate reporting.
- Perform project‑based and cost accounting work as needed.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports for cash flow, grant reporting, expenses, budgets, audit, and internal reporting.
- Reconcile monthly donation database to daily payment processor deposits.
- Invoice monthly with teams and oversee accounts receivable.
- Oversee merchant services for payment processing.
- Maintain current and archived financial record files.
- Coordinate and collect annual audit items, supporting the audit process.
- Oversee weekly accounts payable process.
- Partner with staff and PEO for accurate payroll processing and reporting.
- Review monthly chapter revenue reconciliations and chapter membership payouts.
- Contribute to regular process improvement for accounting and related operations.
- Manage state and federal compliance filings with third‑party administrators.
- Lead project‑based accounting for earned income activities.
- Ensure employee, vendor, and contractor compliance to all policies.
- Create processes and standard operating procedures for resource folders.
- Experience with nonprofit organization financials and accounting.
- Experience with project‑based cost accounting.
- B.A./B.S. in Finance, Accounting, or related degree (or equivalent experience). Minimum 10 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; CPA preferred.
- Takes initiative and employs strong problem‑solving skills.
- Hits all deadlines.
- Familiarity with Quick Books, Expensify, ADP, and other accounting software systems.
- Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to treat financial information with confidentiality and discretion.
- Experience with a complex chart of accounts for proper coding of income and expense transactions.
