Position: Actuarial - Life Capital Management
Job Overview
Wawanesa is growing and is currently looking for Life Actuaries across the following levels:
Actuarial Analyst, Senior Actuarial Analyst, Senior Actuarial Associate. Working with a high degree of autonomy, the successful candidate will contribute both to the actuarial department and other internal company departments while applying analytical skills and actuarial exam knowledge to conduct and present relevant analysis.

Job Responsibilities

Research, extract, and manipulate complex data from relevant sources and assess data quality.

Support the business and overall team by performing analyses/reviews and completing ad‑hoc requests or special projects in a timely manner with some support from peers and leaders.

Evaluate procedures and processes, and suggest potential alternatives or improvements.

Suggest new approaches to problem‑solving and assess impacts of solution options with some support from leaders.

Maintain knowledge of current industry news and trends and consider their impact on Wawanesa.

Commit to professional development and continuous experiential learning to build cross‑functional knowledge, technical skills, and mastery in competencies.

Provide regular project updates to stakeholders and build trust with teams around the actuarial function.

Actively contribute to the mentorship, training, and development of actuarial analysts.

Review analysis of peers and provide thoughtful feedback on reasonableness, completeness, and accuracy.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.

Hold one of the ASA, ACIA, FSA, or FCIA designations.

Strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey complex terminology and concepts in simple terms for stakeholders.

Ability to produce easy‑to‑consume documentation and effectively present work to a wide audience.

Intermediate knowledge of Excel, SQL, R, Python, Power

BI, and/or other related software/programming languages/actuarial software.

Solid foundation in actuarial science, mathematics, probability, statistics, principles of finance, and business knowledge, and ability to apply this knowledge to insurance problems.

Strong attention to detail when performing analysis with minimal technical errors and ability to identify errors and potential areas of concern.

Understanding of balancing materiality, efficiency, and accuracy.

Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner, proactively keeping leaders informed of progress.

Ability to work efficiently and cooperatively in a team environment and respectfully challenge the status quo.

Builds knowledge of current industry and professional standards as they directly relate to individual responsibilities.

Salary & Benefits
Base salary is estimated to be within the range $85,000 – $125,000. In addition, full‑time employees are eligible for an annual bonus plan, leave of absence top‑up programs, generous vacation time, personal days, premium free benefits, and a pension plan.

Working Location
Hybrid work environment: 2 days per week or 15 hours per week in a Wawanesa office. Remote work is available from any of the following locations:
