The Appraisal Sr Manager accomplishes results through the management of professional teams and departments, integrating subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area. The role requires an in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function, coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function, and possess basic commercial awareness. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are required to guide, influence, and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers.
The manager is responsible for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results, and may oversee planning, budgeting and policy formulation within the area of expertise, including short‑term resource planning and full management of a team that may include people, budget, hiring, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions and terminations. The manager also oversees valuation risk associated with real‑estate activities, including credit extensions secured by liens or interests in real estate, capital markets, servicing, default of consumer loans, real‑estate security or activity, asset sales, or refinancing contemplated as a first‑time exit.
- Incorporate subject matter expertise of appraisal regulations, policies, and investor guidelines into daily decisions.
- Lead multiple teams of licensed/certified residential review appraisers performing appraisal reviews on residential properties for the mortgage process.
- Stay abreast of residential real‑estate market changes, drivers of change, and market outlook.
- Correspond with senior quality personnel and chief appraisers at Appraisal Management Companies.
- Perform critical reviews of externally prepared appraisals of real estate.
- Resolve complex issues that are not compliant with Citi policies or appraisal conclusions that are not reasonable, and communicate results clearly and concisely.
- Establish quality benchmarks with vendors, manage vendors to a quality product, maintain satisfactory scorecard performance, oversee action plans to correct deficiencies, and participate in annual due diligence visits to ensure compliance with Citi and regulatory policy.
- Act as the escalation point for supported businesses to address concerns within the review process.
- Monitor reporting to ensure the process is working as intended and promptly escalated any issues.
- Lead and oversee a small team of Junior Talent in project work and day‑to‑day deliverables.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm’s reputation, safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency while supervising the activity of others and creating accountability.
- State Real Estate Appraiser Certification required.
- 5+ years of appraisal and appraisal review experience.
- Minimum 2 years of management experience preferred.
- Thorough understanding of appraisal regulations, appraisal standards and secondary market guidelines required.
- Possess complex and diverse knowledge of financial services and knowledge of Citi is a plus; good diplomacy and influence skills are required.
- Bachelor’s or University degree;
Master’s degree preferred.
