Actuary, Risk Manager/Analyst
Position Overview
As a Middle Market Actuary at Nationwide, you will play a key role in driving pricing strategy and profitability for our commercial lines products. This position supports actuarial initiatives across middle market segments and collaborates closely with underwriting, product, and finance teams to deliver data‑driven insights and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate on pricing models for middle market commercial lines.
- Perform rate reviews and recommend pricing actions based on actuarial analysis.
- Partner with business stakeholders to support product development and portfolio management.
- Analyze loss trends, profitability metrics, and market dynamics.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and cross‑functional teams.
- Conduct complex analyses, adhere to actuarial standards, and develop actionable recommendations.
- Accurately document assumptions, methods, and sources in an organized manner.
- Prepare and present actuarial findings for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Lead peer reviews to ensure quality work and drive innovation.
- Maintain relationships with business customers and build new connections.
- Lead onboarding and training for new associates on standard work processes.
- Apply data mining techniques to identify new relationships and build predictive models.
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) preferred.
- 3+ years of actuarial experience, ideally in commercial lines or middle market.
- Strong proficiency in actuarial software and programming tools (e.g., R, Python, SQL, Excel).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader.
Typical Skills and Experiences- Detailed knowledge of actuarial business functions and statistical methods of analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, analytical software, and programming languages.
- Strong business understanding, problem‑solving, customer focus, and ability to manage ambiguity.
- Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a similar quantitative field.
- Attainment of ACAS and progress toward FCAS is highly desirable.
- Five or more years of actuarial experience is preferred.
