What You’ll Do
This role leads the Variable Annuity (VA) actuarial team within Retirement & Income Solutions (RIS), providing actuarial leadership for both Registered Index‑Linked Annuities (RILA) and Traditional VA products. Reporting to the RIS Chief Actuary, you will shape strategy, drive execution, and influence business results.
- Lead actuarial oversight of the VA business, including pricing, risk management, and in‑force performance; balance growth, profitability, and capital efficiency.
- Evaluate key drivers such as markets, policyholder behavior, and hedging, translating insights into actionable business strategies.
- Partner cross‑functionally with product, investments, finance, and risk to align assumptions and drive results.
- Lead and develop a team of up to 7, providing direct oversight of pricing and financial reporting.
- Build bench strength and develop future leaders within a matrixed environment.
- Set direction across pricing, assumptions, modeling, and analytics.
- Provide actuarial oversight of financial reporting (U.S. GAAP and VM‑21) and ensure accurate, actionable results.
- Integrate perspectives across pricing, reporting and hedging to deliver a consistent view of business performance.
- Maintain rigor in methodologies and governance, advancing process and analytics improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent, or an Enrolled Actuary with 10+ years actuarial experience.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, Actuarial Standards of Practice and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA.
- In‑depth knowledge of actuarial specialty and broad business knowledge.
- Continuing education requirements maintained per SOA or AAA.
- Strong communication skills; ability to translate complex analysis into clear insights.
- Experience leading experienced actuarial teams and operating at a strategic level.
- Integrate pricing, financial reporting (U.S. GAAP / VM‑21) and risk management into a cohesive business view.
- Understand VA / RILA products and market risk drivers; translate into decisions.
- Partner effectively across functions (product, investments, finance, risk).
- Track record of improving models, analytics and processes to enhance decision‑making.
Yearly base salary range: $157,000 – $213,000.
