This position is located in the Executive Director’s Office (EDO) within DNR. The role supports accounting operations and financial reporting for the department, including budget and statutory spending, accounts payable, payroll administration, grant billing, capital asset transactions, and financial reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities- Daily entry, review, and analysis of accounting documents submitted by division staff, ensuring compliance with GAAP, state fiscal rules, DNR policies, and IRS regulations.
- Research and resolve accounting issues, providing guidance and training to staff.
- Review capital asset transactions, prepare and dispose of assets in CORE, and assist with annual closing entries and capital asset confirmations.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts in CORE and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare and run financial reports as needed for division leadership.
- Complete special projects assigned by the Accounts Payable Supervisor or Department Controller, including process analysis, findings, and recommendations.
- Maintain vendor files, set up vendors in CORE, and manage year‑end Form 1099 reporting.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Controller and Accounts Payable Supervisor.
- This is a Remote/Hybrid position. Work is performed primarily from a home office.
- Selected candidates are required to work from the office at 1313 Sherman Street, Room 718 in Denver, CO once a week, preferably on Tuesdays.
Two (2) years of technical accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR two (2) years of college or university coursework in accounting, finance, bookkeeping, or a related field (substitution).
Preferred Qualifications- Current or former state experience relevant to the position.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare journal entries.
- Experience with accounting software.
- Capacity to perform tasks in a changing and high‑volume environment.
- Successful background investigation.
- Disclosure of prior disciplinary or resignation actions if applicable.
- Compliance with state employment rules and policies.
