Position: Revenue Auditor 3 (Work from Home Office - Everett Region)

Position

Revenue Auditor III (RA3) – Finance Division, Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board – Everett, Washington

Overview

The Revenue Auditor III leads complex financial and compliance audits of alcohol and cannabis businesses, ensuring tax and fee compliance, supporting internal audits, and providing education and assistance to licensees and regulatory partners. The role requires independent planning and execution, analysis of tax liability, and collaboration across agency divisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct in‑depth audits of large spirits and cannabis retailers, distributors, distillers, breweries, and wineries.
  • Evaluate fiscal activities, financial records, procedures, and policy to determine compliance with applicable tax/fee laws.
  • Assess accounting procedures, internal controls, and state regulatory compliance and recommend improvements.
  • Identify signs of fraud and seek guidance from senior auditors or supervisors.
  • Interpret RCW and WAC related to cannabis, spirits, and beer & wine audits and communicate findings to licensees.
  • Provide audit findings and corrective action recommendations to licensees, attorneys, accountants, and other agencies.
  • Perform investigative audits of manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, and retailers.
  • Train peer auditors in field‑auditing techniques and participate as a team member on large complex audits.
  • Collect data from systems of records used for cannabis, spirits, and beer & wine audits.
  • Serve as auditor‑in‑charge for team audits, leading guidance, direction, and leadership.
  • Explain audit methodologies in administrative hearings when required.
  • Travel to audit sites, including overnight travel, as needed.
Location & Work Hours

Employee’s personal residence will serve as duty station. The role combines home office and field work. Travel will be required to audit sites with flexibility in scheduling and occasional overnight travel.

Qualifications
  • Seven years of relevant education, professional experience, or a combination of both in auditing, accounting, tax compliance, or tax administration.
  • Valid state driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • Education to experience equivalency:
    • Associate’s degree = 2 years
    • Bachelor’s degree = 4 years
    • Master’s degree = 5 years
  • Certifications that may substitute for one year of experience:
    • Certified Public Accountant
    • Certified Government Financial Manager
    • Certified Management Accountant
    • Certified Fraud Examiner
    • Certified Forensic Accountant
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
  • Intermediate experience with computer software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to interpret state regulations, RCWs, and WACs.
