We are seeking a Head of Trading Research in the New York office. In this role, the individual will lead Global Trading’s liquidity models, research and quant trading strategies. The successful candidate will possess exceptional research skills, a strong track record of leadership and commercial acumen. They will be passionate about new research techniques and technologies. The role touches a wide range of Black Rock teams globally and is pivotal for Global Trading’s future growth and success.
WhatYou Will Do
- Provide global leadership of the Trading Research team
- Set the team vision, research agenda and priorities across Black Rock stakeholders and senior management
- Deliver innovative research embedded into trading and investment processes
- Establish connectivity with academia and industry to keep Global Trading’s research cutting edge
- Build close ties with traders, investors, and quant research teams across Black Rock
- Expand the use of AI & ML in collaboration with partner teams
- Provide guidance to Global Trading on transaction cost analysis and best execution
- Lead, manage and grow a team of exceptional PhD researchers
- Preferably PhD in finance or a subject with quantitative content
- Passion and deep understanding of financial markets, market microstructure and trading
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the financial industry or a research institution
- 5+ years of leadership track record and management experience
- Strong understanding of statistical, econometric and machine learning concepts and programming language literacy (e.g. Python)
- Passionate and high motivation to acquire new skills on the job
- Excellent communicator with ability to explain research in simple terms
- Strong sense of teamwork and knowledge sharing

For New York City only:
The salary range for this position is $218,500 – $260,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including health care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. Black Rock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
