Overview

Reading Partners is a nonprofit organization that partners with community volunteers to provide individualized reading tutoring in under‑resourced schools. The Managing Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (MDFP&A) leads the Finance and Accounting team, reports to the Chief Financial and Operations Officer, and supports national and regional fiscal planning and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the FP&A function and provide business and financial advice to the CFOO and department leaders.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for national departments and regional Executive Directors.
  • Manage a team of two, including a Senior Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis, and collaborate with CFOO on future staffing.
  • Build financial models and forecasting tools for long‑term scenario planning.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly forecast cycle, preparing reporting on performance and variance analysis by region/function.
  • Support executive leadership on key financial metrics and cash flow forecasts.
  • Prepare financial reports for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Oversee operational excellence, refine and support systems and processes, and enhance the use of Adaptive Insights.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports for funders and donors, manage grant report documentation, and track line‑of‑credit covenants.
  • Guide employee performance management, facilitate team meetings, and contribute to Leadership Team sessions.
Required Skills
  • Establish relationships with stakeholders, board members, and community constituents.
  • Think and act strategically, anticipating future needs and potential challenges.
  • Drive results by setting goals and delivering on them before being asked.
  • Apply logical, systematic financial analysis and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of FP&A experience with progressive responsibility.
  • 3+ years of people management in finance; nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to convey complex concepts to non‑finance stakeholders.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and able to manage multiple projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel and financial planning software (Adaptive, Hyperion, Cognos). Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Demonstrated professional judgment and a commitment to the mission and core values of Reading Partners.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the U.S. and minimum age 18.
