Sr Financial Planning Advisor
Onsite – Des Moines, Iowa (cannot consider remote, relocation, or out‑of‑area)
Base Salary: $150,000–$200,000, discretionary bonus structure based on firm revenue growth and overall profitability, plus excellent benefits.
Job Purpose & SummaryThe Senior Financial Planning Advisor serves as the primary relationship manager for a substantial client base, supporting approximately 100 client relationships and overseeing a book of business upwards of 1 million in annual revenue.
The role is critical to ensuring continuity and elevated service delivery, providing comprehensive, holistic financial planning and investment advisory services, including cash flow and tax‑aware planning, retirement planning, estate and legacy planning, insurance and risk management planning, investment strategy and portfolio management. Approximately 25% of the role is dedicated to business development through relationship‑building, referrals, and identifying prospective clients aligned with the firm’s target profile.
EssentialFunctions & Responsibilities
- Assume primary advisor responsibility for a large portfolio of established client relationships.
- Build, manage, and deepen long‑term relationships through proactive, high‑touch engagement.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive, goals‑based financial plans.
- Analyze and interpret complex financial information to support informed client decision‑making.
- Identify gaps, risks, or inefficiencies within financial plans and design actionable strategies to address them.
- Communicate sophisticated financial strategies clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.
- Respond promptly and professionally to client inquiries, reinforcing a service‑first culture.
- Actively engage in professional and community networks through participation and leadership.
- Support firm growth by cultivating new business opportunities and referral relationships.
- Clearly articulate the firm’s differentiated value proposition to prospective clients and partners.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- CFP® certification required.
- Minimum 7 years of experience within a financial planning and/or investment advisory environment.
- Demonstrated success managing client relationships and supporting revenue growth.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and financial planning tools; ability to learn internal systems and platforms.
