The Senior Accountant provides accounting and reporting support for Mercury One, LLC, The Nazarene Fund Global, Inc., and The American Journey Museum. Responsibilities include various aspects of the monthly close, annual audit, tax returns, journal entry creation as well as continued improvements to current financial processes. Be part of a caring, dynamic dedicated team, as we serve our mission in disaster relief, expanding our museum, and saving the lives of persecuted Christians.
Key responsibilities:- Maintain various ledgers ensuring compliance with GAAP standards and nonprofit accounting practices
- Ensure complete and compliant closing of books, including preparation of journal entries daily
- Back-up to Accounts Payable, cash disbursements, bank reconciliations
- Assist Controller with external audit process
- Assist Controller with preparation of tax returns including the Form 990
- Assist in maintaining proper internal financial controls with the organization
- Maintain Museum Artifact Schedule
- Maintain Prepaid Schedules, Fixed Asset Schedules and Inventory Schedules
- Special projects as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business
- 5-10+ years of professional-level experience
- Experience in non-profits preferred
- Ability to adapt with large scale growth
- Ability to adapt with new system implementation
- Demonstrates keen analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficient with Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)
- Blackbaud and Sage/Intact Experience a +
- Intrinsic motivation to meet deadlines
- Ability to work and interact with departments throughout an organization
- Ability to work and interact with external vendors, auditors, financial institutions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, financial information, and work completeness
- Ability to track multiple projects and funds simultaneously, including follow-up on changes to projects/funds
- Regularly works in standard office conditions and climate
- Regularly works at computer screen for extended periods of time and occasionally moves around several facilities.
- Ability to lift items weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Regularly works in dynamic environment, effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
