Position: Supervisor of Home Equity Underwriting

Overview

Flexible work model blending in-office and remote work.

Compensation: $75,000 - $95,000 (based on experience and credentials).

Location Type: Hybrid.

Position Type: Full Time.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM.

Supervises daily activities of assigned Home Equity Underwriter staff. Assigns work and delegates responsibilities to staff and monitors progress to ensure area goals are met and high‑quality member service is maintained. Performs all work in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures, and regulatory laws.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of home equity underwriters and/or support to ensure all applications are reviewed accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Monitor daily workflow and pipelines to ensure staff is making loan decisions on files according to agency or credit union guidelines.
  • Provide staff with information, direction, resources, feedback, and support needed to successfully complete job responsibilities.
  • Conduct periodic staff meetings to discuss topics of concerns from staff, other areas, and members.
  • Approve loans during times of high loan volume.
  • Create and proactively maintain a close communication relationship with all parties involved in the mortgage transaction to ensure timely fulfillment of documentation requirements and established SLA’s.
  • Use and maintain the mortgage approval authority to make timely decisions on applicable mortgage loan requests.
  • Communicate directly with members to discuss complaints and escalated issues.
  • Review and recommend new methods or procedures to make daily operations more efficient.
  • Perform considerable short‑term planning, scheduling, and coordinating to develop and implement business objectives.
  • Set goals for assigned teams to achieve operational and strategic results.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and development opportunities for directly reporting staff.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships, build trust among team members, and respond appropriately to employees' concerns.
  • Assist with the development, monitoring, and maintenance of the annual budget.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance to ensure work is completed in accordance with applicable laws and government regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting area of expertise.
  • Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge.
  • Complete annual compliance and information security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage lending with a financial institution.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and analytical skills to effectively manage areas of responsibility and attain organizational goals.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems or situations.
  • Ability to positively influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties.
Safe Act Statement

This position requires the employee to register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). The employee will obtain a unique identifier from the registry before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities. The employee must maintain and renew the registration on an annual basis, provide updated registration information with the registry on a timely basis, and provide a unique identifier to consumers as required by applicable SAFE Act regulations and Suncoast Credit Union policies and procedures.
