Job Summary
This tax customer service position is responsible for providing excellent, responsive customer service and issue resolution to complex tax questions for internal and external customers regarding tax consequences of various benefit payments.
Responsibilities- Provide responsive customer service and issue resolution to complex tax questions from claimants, policyholders, field personnel, home office personnel, tax authorities via call center, email, and Navi Link.
- Resolve and correct inquiries and complaints in a timely manner, maintaining documentation of resolution.
- Consult with field personnel, brokers, DBS, and policyholders on proper tax adjudication of claims and communicate Unum’s tax procedures and guidelines.
- Calculate and submit corrections to W‑2s, W‑2
Cs and 1099s, obtaining proper documentation. - Identify and respond to existing taxation discrepancies between contract, system coding and client documentation; collaborate with appropriate parties for resolution.
- Conduct policyholder audits, generate reports, obtain supporting documentation, and communicate with internal and external parties.
- Review and revise policyholder reports from legacy systems to ensure accuracy and timely distribution.
- Calculate and process FICA, FIT and SIT tax refunds and underpayments in legacy systems.
- Provide verification of claimant sick pay income to federal and state governments, SSA and VA.
- Demonstrate high quality results via quality reviews and perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred.
- Experience in accounting, finance or tax required.
- Solid knowledge of tax laws and current developments.
- Excellent customer service history.
- Strong computer, analytical, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to operate with minimal direction and multitask.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, compliance-oriented environment with attention to detail.
- Judgment and independent decision-making for moderate issues.
- Strong collaboration and negotiation skills, professional demeanor and ability to interact with all levels of management.
- Strong math and calculator skills.
