Chief Financial Officer – St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer safeguards the facility’s assets, prepares financial statements in accordance with GAAP, enforces financial and accounting policies, maintains internal controls, and contributes to strategic business planning.

The CFO monitors financial performance, risk, revenue cycle, and capital projects, and collaborates with home office departments, regulatory bodies, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze daily operating results to keep revenues, expenses, and labor within budgeted objectives; advise department heads and administration of needed improvements.
  • Establish and maintain sound financial controls and record keeping; approve financial expenditures up to the level set by the CEO.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory requirements and reimbursement changes; implement policy and procedural updates.
  • Ensure ethical and responsible financial operations of the facility.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and coordinate workforce plans with Human Resources.
  • Prepare and report financial and operating reports; maintain accurate accounting processes.
  • Prepare financial forecasts, monitor performance versus budget, and manage cash controls.
  • Coordinate with senior leadership on strategic plans, capital expenditure programs.
  • Evaluate and improve financial and accounting systems; oversee implementation of new systems.
  • Assist in developing new business opportunities and advising on financial prospects.
  • Perform necessary administrative duties such as document signing and performance appraisals.

Qualifications

Experience and

Education:

At least ten years of progressive financial healthcare or equivalent experience in general accounting, operations, financial systems, financial statement preparation, review and analysis, multidisciplinary management, and ethics. A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required; an MBA, MHA, or CPA is strongly preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage all financial activities under pressure.
  • Ability to translate complex finance, operational, and compliance issues into clear concepts for all organizational levels.
  • Referenceable track record in facility finance and decision‑making to improve financial performance.
  • Experience in negotiating managed care contracts and supervising such negotiations.
  • Substantial experience in financial operations, strategic planning, contracts, reimbursement, budgeting, and capital financing.
  • Understanding of healthcare trends and anticipation of opportunities.
