Job Summary

We are hiring an interim VP of Accounting for a 3‑to‑6‑month engagement with a major, global environmental nonprofit ($150M+ budget). This role reports directly to the CFO, leads a talented team, and drives the strategic integrity of the general ledger, financial reporting, compliance, and treasury operations.

Key Details
  • Start Date: Immediate (Right away)
  • Duration: 3–6 months
  • Location: Hybrid – 1 day per week in office and 4 days remote (office closest to your home: New York City or Washington, DC)
  • Pay: Competitive weekly W‑2 pay via Tatum
Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction over the general ledger, month/quarter/year‑end close, and treasury functions.
  • Ensure impeccable compliance with nonprofit regulations (Form 990, Uniform Guidance, audits).
  • Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for the CFO and executive board.
  • Lead and mentor a high‑performing finance team while championing continuous process improvements.
Qualifications
  • Active CPA required.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in public accounting and 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Direct experience working within a $150M+ complex, global nonprofit environment.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, donor/grant compliance, and nonprofit ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite).
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, and donor/grant compliance.
  • Proven experience overseeing accounting, reporting, treasury, and audits.
