Project Accountant- $75,000-$85,000 CAD – Remote/ Toronto, GTA

The Role

As our Project Accountant, you will manage the financial side of projects from setup through to completion. Working alongside Project Managers, you will track budgets, monitor costs and ensure financial reporting reflects real project progress.

Because you are involved throughout the project lifecycle, you will gain clear visibility of project performance and profitability. This allows you to provide valuable financial insight that helps teams make informed decisions and keep projects financially on track.

You will also work with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, gaining hands-on experience with a modern financial system widely used in project-based organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain projects, structure, and setup in Business Central
• Support ‘item creation’ to ensure proper financial, inventory and project tracking
• Develop and manage project budgets in Business Central
• Maintain accurate project records throughout the project lifecycle
• Conduct ‘project cost reviews’ in collaboration with Project Managers
• Monitor and review project actual costs again budget and investigate variances
• Support forecasting and cost-to-complete analysis
• Manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) and perform ‘revenue recognition’ practices
• Ensure alignment of project process, incurred costs, and recognized revenue
• Prepare project profitability reports, including margin analysis and variance explanations
• Provide financial insight to Finance leadership and key Operations stakeholders
• Support month-end close activities related to projects
• Prepare customer invoices and credit memos and review vendor invoices and credits
• Coordinate with AP and AR to ensure accurate and timely processing
• Manage project inventory activity, including movements outside of standard workflows
• Support inventory reconciliation and project costing accuracy
• Calculate and support sales commission reporting and accruals

The ideal Project Accountant will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• CPA student status or CPA designation
• Experience in project accounting or project-based finance
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail

You should also be comfortable working remotely and able to travel across North America when required.
