This role is located at Ferguson's corporate offices in Newport News, VA on a hybrid schedule with relocation assistance. Remote work is an option for the ideal candidate; however, the ability to travel to the corporate offices as needed and work east‑coast hours is essential.
Responsibilities- Identifies global, federal, and state tax planning opportunities and leads planning initiatives including transfer pricing analyses, management cost allocation studies, merger and acquisition activities, restructuring, and other projects.
- Provides leadership and guidance to Tax Managers and Tax Analysts supporting these initiatives.
- Plays a leadership role in significant income tax audits and engages periodically in supporting indirect tax audits, interacting with tax authorities on behalf of the company.
- Proactively engages with Ferguson’s business partners to support their tax needs and become a trusted resource for business leaders.
- Handles external service providers.
- Ensures that reporting and compliance impacts of planning initiatives are well communicated and reflected in Ferguson’s tax reporting and compliance, and that any SOX requirements related to projects and planning are properly accomplished.
- Leads tax special projects and supports tax aspects of corporate‑wide initiatives.
- Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of tax laws affecting the company, using that knowledge to identify risks and opportunities and updating relevant stakeholders.
- 8+ years of accounting firm and corporate tax experience, including exposure to international and U.S. state planning a plus.
- 2+ years of tax planning and controversy experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact as a proactive strategic business partner.
- Team player with the ability to work with remote team members and support cross‑functional goals.
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills.
- Proficient with technology commonly employed by finance and tax departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Master’s in Taxation or CPA preferred.

Pay RangeActual pay rate may vary depending on location. The estimated pay range for this position is $7,949.70 – $13,016.30 per month for salaried roles. The specific rate will depend on a candidate’s qualifications and prior experience. This role is bonus or incentive plan eligible.
