The Accounting Advisor is a part‑time role that provides expert guidance on financial and accounting matters and helping our clients make informed decisions. In this role, you will work directly with business owners and leaders to drive financial clarity and compliance across diverse industries.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advice on financial reporting requirements and tax compliance, ensuring clients meet federal, state, and industry‑specific regulations.
- Collaborate with clients on budget creation, forecasting, and cash‑flow management to support strategic planning.
- Prepare and present financial reports for board meetings and internal stakeholders, translating complex data into clear insights.
- Support external auditors during audits by coordinating schedules, delivering documentation, and addressing queries.
- Advise on risk management strategies, including internal controls, process improvements, and fraud prevention.
- Monitor regulatory updates and industry best practices, communicating implications to clients and recommending timely adjustments.
- Record client transactions in their accounting system both after the fact as well as in advance by taking part in the A/P and A/R workflows.
- Create month‑end journal entries and reconcile accounts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CMA, EA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, tax codes, and reporting standards across multiple jurisdictions.
- Hands‑on experience with annual audit processes and liaison with external auditors preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all organizational levels.
- Knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Quick Books Online or similar preferred).
- Proficiency in Excel (including pivot tables), other Microsoft Office products and Google Suite.
- Exceptional problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deliver high‑quality work under tight deadlines.
- Strategic mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and client satisfaction.
- Collaborative team player who can also take initiative independently.

This role is currently estimated at 10-20 hours per week; however, it is expected to grow. We welcome you to grow with us if you choose, or to maintain a smaller schedule if that is your preference.
Compensation for this role is expected to be between $30-$40/hour commensurate with skills and experience. While this is not a sales role, bonuses are available in response to active involvement in bringing on new clients. Sparrow offers paid holidays, vacation and sick time.
While Sparrow operates primarily as a remote work business, there will be times when you will be expected to visit a client on‑site in their offices to provide in‑person support. As such, the employee must reside and work in the state of MN (ideally in the Twin Cities metro area). The amount of on‑site work will vary by seasonal demand but is expected to be around 25% or less for this role.
Travel beyond local on‑site work is not required for this role.
