About this Position

Rising Sun is hiring a Senior Finance Manager as an integral member of the Admin/Operations team. This position is responsible for financial operations, compliance, and strategy. The Senior Finance Manager directly supervises the Contracts Manager, works closely with all members of the Admin and Operations department, and reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO).

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Management:
    Manages third‑party accounting, bookkeeping, Accounts Payable, reconciliations, payroll, payroll systems, month‑end close, building financial reporting, internal controls documentation, credit card management, staff expense reimbursements, and other financial tasks as needed.
  • Financial Compliance:
    Manages the annual financial audit and tax filing, implements risk reduction systems, administers 403(b) retirement plan, and other compliance tasks.
  • Financial Strategy:
    Tracks and monitors financial reports, reports budget vs. actuals variances, develops analytical tools, manages annual budgeting, monitors cash flow, and escalates concerns to the CFOO.
  • Partnership with Other Departments:
    Collaborates with Admin/Ops for communication and efficiency, provides training and support, collaborates with Development on fundraising strategy, supports Program Directors with financial reporting, identifies budget concerns and works with Department Heads to develop solutions.
  • Grants and Contracts:
    Owns grant and contract revenue cycle, supervises Contracts Manager, reviews invoices and funder reports, monitors financial health, approves budget modifications and contract adjustments, reviews hour and expense allocations, serves as escalation point, partners with Development on proposals and negotiations.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of finance experience, with at least 3 years in a non‑profit organization.
  • Deep understanding of non‑profit finance and financial systems, including fund accounting, grant compliance, revenue recognition.
  • 3+ years supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing or significantly contributing to an annual audit process.
  • Experience leading or co‑leading organization‑wide budgeting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and deliver against rigorous deadlines.
  • High IT and computer fluency: excellent Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets skills, thorough knowledge of database systems.
  • Demonstrable sound judgment and ability to act decisively under pressure.
  • Residency in California (preferably in the Bay Area) or ability to relocate; ability to travel to Oakland and/or Stockton as required.
Preferred
  • Advanced degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Direct experience working with Quick Books Online, Salesforce, Rippling, Expensify, BILL.
  • Non‑profit finance certifications.
  • Vehicle and clean driving record; ability to drive locally as needed.
Salary and Benefits

Permanent, full‑time, exempt, salaried position with an annual starting salary range:

  • Bay Area Resident: $89,100 – $93,555
  • Central Valley Resident: $85,550 – $89,827.50
