Finance Generalist – Back Office For Organizing in Michigan ("BOOM")
BOOM LLC provides the backend finance, administrative and HR service functions for our network of nonprofit organizations and sponsored projects. Founded by leaders from 482
Forward, the Michigan Education Justice Coalition and the Urban Core Collective, BOOM serves as a backoffice hub to meet the growing needs of base building organizations, allowing them to focus on programmatic and organizing priorities.
In partnership with the Finance Director, the Finance Generalist will provide support to BOOM staff and partners to support financial management in alignment with our values and team practices. This position requires a hard‑working, innovative, organized, flexible, meticulous, and empathetic finance professional to support a network of Michigan‑based non‑profit organizations and entities to leverage, scale and innovate their work for transformative social change.
Responsibilities- Support day‑to‑day financial operations of BOOM and partner organizations, including tracking revenue, monitoring expenses, processing accounts payable and receivable, and managing staff credit card expenses and reimbursements.
- Track revenue and monitor expenses; process payables/receivables; manage staff credit card expenses and reimbursements.
- Reconcile bank statements, prepare reports, assist with month/year‑end closing, support audits and 990 tasks.
- Record grant income, track budgets/expenses, liaise with partner expense approvers.
- Onboard staff and partners to financial systems (, Divvy, Google Workspace); support receipt collection and transaction classification.
- Assist with budget preparation, financial analysis, and compliance reporting as assigned.
- Committed to social, economic, and racial justice; mission‑driven with cultural competency and experience in diverse communities.
- 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience; non‑profit experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
- General knowledge of fiscal and legal entities (including 501c3, 501c4, PAC, LLC).
- Ability to understand and communicate financial policies, controls, and procedures.
- Excellent time‑ and project‑management skills; a nimble self‑starter with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- Values‑driven individual with a good sense of humor.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; a systems‑thinker who takes initiative and transforms problems into opportunities.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy.
- Proficient in Quickbooks Online, , and Google Workspace; comfortable with software platforms.
This is a full‑time, FLSA exempt position located in Michigan. Remote work is available with limited travel; reliable internet access is required. Salary: $60,000 – $70,000 per year. Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, prescription, disability, and life insurance, access to a 401(k) program, and generous PTO.
