Compensation
Initial signing bonus of $1,250 and an additional $1,250 retention bonus available upon completion of one year of satisfactory service. Bonus must be paid back if employee leaves prior to completing one year. Benefit is limited to new State of Michigan employees; current employees are ineligible.
Position OverviewProfessional Financial Analyst in the Michigan Gaming Control Board's Enterprise Licensing section. Responsible for systematic review, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of financial documents—including bank accounts, investment portfolios, net‑worth statements, tax returns—to assess the financial probity of license applicants or licensees. Acts as a financial resource to the investigative arm, providing on‑site financial expertise throughout the investigative and licensing processes mandated by the Michigan Gaming Control & Revenue Act and related statutes.
Participates in financial reviews as required by MGCB.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in any major with at least 12 semester (18 term) credits in accounting, finance, or economics.
- Experience:
- Financial Analyst 9:
No specific type or amount required. - Financial Analyst 10:
One year of professional experience in systematic review, analysis, interpretation, or evaluation of budgets, mortgages, loans, or other financial data. - Financial Analyst 11:
Two years of professional experience in the same areas, including one year equivalent to a Financial Analyst 10. College credits may substitute proportionally (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience.
- Financial Analyst 9:
- Employment in the state classified service requires a high degree of loyalty, ethical standards, and compliance with conflict‑of‑interest reporting.
- All candidates must submit to a pre‑employment drug test within 24 hours of a conditional offer.
- Background checks, reference checks, criminal background checks, drug testing, and tax transcript verification will be conducted.
MGCB may consider alternative or remote work schedules based on operational needs. A minimum of two in‑office days per week is required for positions approved for remote work. Remote work is not an entitlement and must be completed within Michigan.
