Overview

The BMO Investment Services (BIS) Investment Service Specialist's primary responsibility is to provide clients with a superior customer service experience. Duties include assisting clients with account questions, password resets, account opening, balance inquiries, money movements, transfers, quotes, and handling fixed income and market‑linked CD investment inquiries, purchases, and redemptions. The role also involves uncovering opportunities to refer clients to BIS Financial Advisors and internal bank partners.

Responsibilities
  • Service incoming phone calls and emails within service level goals.
  • Demonstrate core competencies by connecting, asking open‑ended questions, and listening to uncover opportunities.
  • Execute trades on client account open requests (e.g., mutual funds or brokerage products).
  • Facilitate customer asset transfers into the bank and perform required account maintenance.
  • Provide general and specific information on accounts, products, transaction status, etc.
  • Respond to web navigation queries, assist online trade execution, and provide basic technical assistance.
  • Process account opening and maintenance, completing required documentation accurately.
  • Use the client relationship management system to track activities and contacts.
  • Uncover referral opportunities to Financial Advisors and BMO Harris Bank colleagues.
  • Participate in outbound calling campaigns to grow the investment business.
  • Serve as secondary contact for client requests when the assigned Financial Advisor is unavailable.
  • Provide customized, comprehensive service to mass‑market clients.
  • Support service requests from a product set that includes mutual funds, fixed income, certificates of deposit, managed asset allocation programs, insurance products, and annuities.
  • Resolve client issues quickly to retain relationships and build future growth opportunities.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of investment products, regulatory requirements, competitive trends, and comply with firm and regulatory policies.
  • Adhere to compliance guidelines and maintain accurate records.
Risk Management
  • Maintain strong knowledge of target investment products and solutions.
  • Perform all service activities in compliance with regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Adhere to the guidelines in the Compliance Manual for BIS Financial Advisors.
  • Conduct business within regulations of banking and brokerage entities (NASD, SEC, Federal Reserve, Internal Audit).
  • Maintain accurate client and transaction records.
  • Use approved marketing literature to mitigate risk and exposure.
Knowledge
  • Minimum 2-3 years of successful experience with customer service focus in financial planning, securities, or insurance.
  • Valid and active SIE, Series 7, and 66 (or 65+63) required.
  • Series 65 obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in finance or economics.
  • Basic knowledge of a financial planning process.
  • Solid knowledge of markets and investment products.
  • Strong working knowledge of the financial industry.
  • Experience with managed products and/or financial planning services.
  • High level of integrity (Clean U‑4).

Salary

$41,714.00 - $77,500.00 (Salaried, commissions may apply).
