Zurich North America is seeking a Head of Reserving for the Workers Compensation Line of Business. The role reports to the Chief Reserving Actuary and is based in Schaumburg, IL or New York, NY, with hybrid remote working available.
Responsibilities- Lead an actuarial team responsible for all finance actuarial elements for the Workers Compensation Line of Business.
- Communicate results of analyses to stakeholders, including U.S. executive leadership.
- Lead projects and initiatives to improve actuarial efficiencies.
- Produce monthly reporting and executive communication.
- Provide leadership on processes and off‑cycle improvement projects.
- Communicate information and results to a variety of technical and non‑technical audiences across the organization.
- Handle ad hoc requests.
- Manage and coach a team of actuarial professionals, offering regular coaching and feedback to support development and performance.
- Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience in the actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification; OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of experience in the actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification AND
- Experience leading cross‑functional teams.
- Insurance industry experience.
- Experience applying actuarial principles across pricing, reserving, reinsurance, and multiple lines of business.
- Several years of experience in U.S. Workers Compensation business.
- Prior reserving experience including quarterly booking decisions.
- Strong understanding of IFRS 17 and U.S. statutory accounting for Workers Compensation.
- Solid project management and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, strong influence, and cross‑functional partnership ability.
- Knowledge and skills reflective of a senior practitioner who has progressed within actuarial positions of increasing responsibility.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite and statistical analysis software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- FCAS or ACAS.
The proposed salary range for this position is $201,500–$330,100, with a short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 35%. The role is also eligible to participate in the company’s long‑term incentive program.
