THE POSITION
Join the Pennsylvania Insurance Department as an Insurance Company Financial Analyst Trainee and start building valuable financial analysis experience. You will have the opportunity to participate in a progressively responsible training program learning the basics of the U.S. Solvency Framework, including the state‑based system supported by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and the risk‑focused analysis process, statutory accounting principles and the Department’s laws, regulations, rules, and procedures.
This role introduces you to the systems and tools that support the financial health of insurance companies. This is a strong first step toward a stable and rewarding career.
This entry level role provides introductory training in the financial review process for insurance companies and related entities. You will develop your understanding of regulatory practices, solvency monitoring, and financial reporting. As an Insurance Company Financial Analyst Trainee, you will perform the following duties:
- Foundational Training: Study regulatory frameworks, financial analysis tools, and industry guidelines
- Record Review: Analyze financial documents, operational records, and required filings
- Risk Understanding: Identify key financial risks and understand the solvency monitoring process
- System Use: Enter data into software applications and learn analytical platforms and resources
- Report Preparation: Prepare written materials, organize files, and participate in meetings with regulated entities

Review industry publications and materials to stay informed about trends relevant to financial analysis
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full‑time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with 60‑minute lunch.
- Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time, two days per week in office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. - Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,917.00 (before taxes).
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in insurance, accounting, finance, economics, business administration, risk‑management, or a closely related field, which includes 15 college credits in accounting, finance, or auditing; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 15 college credits in accounting, finance, or auditing.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Other Requirements:
- You must meet the PA residency requirement.
