Senior Treasury Analyst

A key member of Michigan State University’s Treasury team, this full‑time position focuses on supporting the university’s endowment, treasury, and investment operations. The role combines financial analysis, treasury management, endowment administration, and strategic collaboration in a mission‑driven higher‑education environment.

What You’ll Do

Endowment Administration (45%)

  • Administer the Charitable Remainder Trust program; assist with analysis of appropriate Trust vehicles and coordinate with trust administrators and tax firms.
  • Ensure all trust accounting, quarterly and year‑end reporting, and IRS tax requirements are completed accurately.
  • Assist with transfers of gifts to the University, establishment of new endowment account requests, and review of endowment agreements.
  • Conduct annual minimum balance reviews, prepare spending policy analyses, maintain information in the endowment accounting system, and report underutilized endowment income accounts.
  • Prepare the Endowment Fund annual financial report for inclusion in audited financial statements.

Cash and Investment Operations (45%)

  • Analyze, evaluate, and recommend treasury service provider relationships; set up new services and maintain bank account management database.
  • Serve as primary liaison with financial service providers, coordinating review meetings and follow‑ups.
  • Support departments with treasury services through websites, newsletters, training sessions, and presentations.
  • Record interest income, other cash receipts, and prepare analysis of monthly bank fees and account earnings.
  • Compute and distribute investment income to ledger accounts; reconcile and report distributions in audited financial statements.
  • Conduct research, analytical work, and reporting for special Treasury projects, liquidity reporting, and investment reporting.
  • Assist with cash flow projections and annual investment income projections.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, yearly, and multi‑year cash flow reports for liquidity and investment income projections.
  • Support year‑end reporting of cash and investment activities for audited financial statements.

Other (10%)

  • Serve as team analyst for Request for Proposal projects.
  • Assist with projects and analyses requested by office or executive management.
  • Act as backup to any Treasury and Financial Management staff.
Work Modality

This position is remote‑friendly, requiring an on‑campus presence of one to three days per week. The flexible “Hybrid” model allows regular remote work mixed with in‑office days as mutually agreed with the supervisor.

Salary Expectations

Salary range is $61,253–$76,566, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to a four‑year college degree in Accounting or Finance with relevant coursework in Computer Science; 3–5 years of progressive experience in professional financial statement preparation (cost accounting, auditing) or CPA registration; experience with word processing, office management, spreadsheets, and accounting software.

Desired Qualifications
  • Professional designation such as CTP, CPA, or CMA.
  • 3–5 years of responsible experience in an endowed institution, financial services firm, or treasury office.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independent and collaborative work across departments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with enterprise financial systems such as Kuali Financial System.
