Description of WorkThis role is part of the Governor’s Office and joins the Demographic and Economic Analysis (DEA) Section as an Economic Analyst. The position focuses on strengthening the present and shaping the future through independent, data‑driven analysis. The posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night before the listed end date.
Key Responsibilities- Develop forecasts of state tax and non‑tax revenue sources.
- Estimate the impact of changes to tax laws on state revenues and taxpayers.
- Review proposed legislation and advise leadership on fiscal and policy impacts.
- Negotiate consensus revenue forecasts with the Fiscal Research Division.
- Prepare data visualizations for internal and external communications.
- Demonstrated expertise in time‑series forecasting, data science, or tax policy analysis, including building, maintaining, or interpreting quantitative models.
- Applied experience conducting statistical or econometric analysis using professional software packages or programming languages (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, Python).
- Proven ability to independently research, synthesize, and communicate technical economic, statistical, or fiscal studies to decision‑makers.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong capabilities in data visualization and presentation development (PowerPoint, dashboards, or analytical reports).
- Hybrid schedule: onsite work Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in downtown Raleigh; optional remote work Mondays and Fridays.
