Company Description

RU Financial has been coaching current and former college athletes in New Jersey on financial strategies since 2010. The team focuses on helping clients build wealth as a foundation for a full and meaningful life, rather than just strong financial statements. Drawing on deep experience in the athletic world, RU Financial addresses the unique financial needs of student‑athletes and supports them in turning long‑term goals into reality.

The firm also guides college athletes toward post‑college careers through career coaching and a Financial Literacy program. RU Financial aims to be a trusted resource for colleges and universities across the tri‑state area, supporting student‑athlete success on and off the field.

Role Description

The Financial Coach is a full‑time, hybrid role based in New Jersey, United States, with some flexibility to work from home. This role involves meeting with current and former college athletes to assess financial goals, explain financial concepts, and develop personalized financial strategies and action plans. The Financial Coach will provide ongoing coaching on budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and planning for career transitions after college.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities include conducting one‑on‑one and group coaching sessions, delivering financial literacy workshops, and collaborating with college staff and partners to support student‑athlete development. The role also includes tracking client progress, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to program improvements and outreach efforts.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to engage student‑athletes and build trusting coaching relationships.
  • Candidates should possess skills in assessment, goal‑setting, and coaching methodologies to help clients define objectives and stay accountable.
  • Candidates should possess organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple clients, workshops, and follow‑up tasks effectively.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, education, counseling, or a related field is preferred; relevant certifications in financial coaching or planning are a plus.
  • Experience working with student‑athletes, young adults, or in a college environment is beneficial, as is familiarity with the unique challenges of athletic careers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to financial literacy, client education, and an inclusive, non‑judgmental coaching approach is highly valued.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement in New Jersey and occasionally travel to partner colleges and universities within the tri‑state area.
