Sr Fiscal Services Tech
Position summary:
The Department of Computer Science at the University of New Mexico is seeking an energetic professional to serve as the department’s Sr. Fiscal Services Tech. The individual will initiate, process, and maintain records of a variety of complex fiscal, budgetary, and associated transactions, indirectly supporting the accountant and department administrator. They will investigate and resolve problems related to funds, budgets, expenditures, and procurement practices, and provide reports and analyses on complex fiscal issues as assigned.
They will assist in the development, implementation, and management of fiscal systems and procedures.
- Conduct department purchasing and reimbursement transactions and review purchasing documents for funding availability, mathematical correctness, and compliance with university policy and state and federal funding requirements.
- Monitor revenue and expenses for departmental accounts; ensure expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, university policy, and standard accounting procedures.
- Create and process department graduate assistantship contracts, monitor contract funding sources, and complete adjustments as necessary.
- Respond to requests and concerns regarding fiscal transactions; analyze and provide reports and correspondence on unresolved problems.
- Interact with and train department staff regarding financial policies and procedures; serve as liaison with client department representatives, vendors, and funding source representatives in the resolution of financial issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of appropriate records, contracts, documents, and data in compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and policies.
- Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED; at least five years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Ability to understand and apply general accounting processes.
- Experience with UNM accounting systems and processes (Banner, MyReports, Workflow, ePAFs, Labor Distributions, JVs, Chrome River, Lobo Mart).
- Ability to understand and apply university policies and procedures and federal/state financial regulations.
- Experience preparing and monitoring budgets using finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
- Strong organizational and follow‑up skills.
- Experience with UNM purchasing card and related policies.
- Experience reconciling, balancing, and maintaining standard accounting records.
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage confidential information.
