The Mortgage Loan Officer is a full-time hybrid role based in Portland, ME, with flexibility for some work-from-home arrangements. This role is responsible for originating residential mortgage loans, guiding clients through the loan process from initial inquiry to closing, and ensuring a smooth, clear, and timely experience. Day-to-day tasks include assessing borrower eligibility, collecting and analyzing financial documentation, coordinating with underwriters and processors, and recommending appropriate loan products.
The Mortgage Loan Officer will maintain up-to-date knowledge of mortgage regulations and company programs, build and manage a pipeline of leads, and cultivate relationships with real estate professionals and other referral sources. The role requires consistent, professional communication and a strong focus on ethical, compliant lending practices.
- Experience as a Loan Officer or in a similar residential lending role, with a solid track record of originating and closing loans.
- Knowledge of the Mortgage Industry and Mortgage Lending practices, including current regulations, loan programs, and market trends.
- Familiarity with Underwriting standards and guidelines, and the ability to work effectively with underwriting teams to resolve conditions.
- Strong Customer Service skills, including the ability to explain complex mortgage concepts clearly and support clients throughout the loan cycle.
- Active or eligible state mortgage loan originator license (NMLS) for Maine, meeting all regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with loan origination systems, basic financial analysis, and standard office software tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills to manage multiple files and deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment, demonstrating integrity and adherence to compliance standards.
- Prior experience in a retail mortgage, banking, or financial services setting is highly beneficial.
