The firm offers engagement based financial planning tailored to specific client needs, as well as planning for Canadians and dual US/Canadian citizens. Clients can also engage in subscription-based financial planning to build ongoing advice relationships and support long-term financial goals. Modern Cents focuses on empowering individuals with clear, unbiased guidance instead of product sales, and provides resources and information through its online presence.
We are a team of four female financial planners looking to add to our superpower!
Role Description An Advice Only Certified Financial Planner will provide comprehensive, unbiased financial guidance to individuals and families, with no product sales or commissions. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting calls with prospective clients, meeting with clients virtually across Canada, analyzing client financial data, and developing customized financial planning, retirement strategies, investment planning, and cash flow optimization, particularly for Canadians and dual US/Canadian citizens.
The planner will prepare written financial reports, explain recommendations in plain language, and maintain ongoing relationships through scheduled check-ins and reviews. Additional duties include staying current on relevant tax, retirement, and regulatory changes, collaborating on educational materials that enhance financial literacy, and documenting all client interactions in accordance with firm standards. This is a full-time consultant role and you can be based anywhere as it is a remote position.
Qualifications
- Strong Financial Planning and Personal Financial Planning skills, with experience creating tailored, holistic advice-only plans.
- Expertise in the cross border financial planning space - dual US/Canadian citizens and green card holders living in Canada.
- Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation or equivalent professional certification.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and support client financial literacy. Empathetic communication is strongly valued.
- High ethical standards, commitment to client-first, conflict-free advice, and strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Comfort working virtually and using technology, and engaging directly with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Post-secondary education in finance, economics, business, or a related field is preferred.
