About the role Luno is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical individual to enhance and oversee our global payments framework. This role will serve as a crucial link between our product, treasury, and engineering departments, focusing on optimizing the management of fiat transactions and fostering relationships with banking and payment service providers.

- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with banking partners and payment service providers, negotiating favorable commercial agreements to benefit the organization.
- Assess potential new payment providers by conducting thorough analyses of their pricing structures, settlement efficiency, and associated regulatory risks.
- Function as a business analyst, converting business needs into detailed functional specifications for seamless payment integrations.
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to introduce new payment methods and enhance existing payment infrastructure.
- Conduct annual and on-demand Know Your Business (KYB) assessments for all payment partners to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
- Design and implement scalable payment processes for institutional clients, focusing on deposits, withdrawals, and settlement mechanisms.
- Analyze cross-border payment routes to enhance foreign exchange costs, liquidity, and transaction settlement times.
- Develop financial models to monitor Total Processing Cost (TPC) and pinpoint opportunities for revenue enhancement.
- Manage the complete onboarding process for new payment providers, ensuring that all legal, compliance, and technical prerequisites are fulfilled prior to launch.
- Demonstrated experience in the payments, fintech, or banking sectors, with a focus on both local and international payment systems such as EFT, bank transfers, credit cards, e-wallets, and mobile money (MoMo).
- A solid foundation in business analysis, including the ability to create business requirements documents, user stories, and process flow diagrams.
- Experience in evaluating payment providers and a comprehensive understanding of the payment integration lifecycle.
- Proficiency in financial modeling to evaluate cost implications and revenue opportunities effectively.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, including Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Know Your Business (KYB) requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of engaging with teams across finance, risk management, compliance, and technical departments.
- Experience in working with agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Knowledge of data analysis techniques and reporting tools to derive insights from payment data.
- Familiarity with international payment regulations and compliance standards.
- Previous experience in a role focused on institutional payment solutions.
- Understanding of emerging payment technologies and trends in the fintech landscape.
- Expertise in managing payment partnerships and vendor relationships.
- Proficient in payment integration processes and API functionalities.
- Knowledgeable in cross-border payment strategies and foreign exchange optimization.
- Skilled in designing payment flows tailored for institutional clients.
- Familiar with compliance processes related to KYB and provider onboarding.
- Competent in financial modeling and cost-benefit analysis.
- Experienced in process mapping and identifying operational gaps.
- Proficient in agile project management using tools like Jira and Confluence.
- Capable of conducting data analysis and generating insightful reports.
