Job Summary

The Director of Fraud Strategy leads the Fraud Strategy function of Account Protection, responsible for analyzing fraud trends, developing mitigation strategies, and deploying creative solutions to manage fraud losses, maximize revenue, and support business growth. The Director manages a team of fraud analysts providing real‑time and trending insight into fraud vulnerabilities and countermeasure opportunities. The Director guides the optimization of fraud mitigation controls within the framework of tools to ensure the business meets or exceeds fraud loss goals while supporting growth targets.

The Director measures and monitors fraud performance to quantitatively assess risk and opportunities, and designs creative solutions through control optimization, new tools, and alternative data usage.

Essential Job Functions
  • Communication: Develop and communicate vision for the team, define success and metrics, deliver on the vision for the Account Protection function and fraud strategy team; utilize Microsoft Office tools and work independently to prioritize projects; apply critical thinking and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve problems and gain consensus.
  • Review and evaluate: Hire, develop, supervise, and retain key talent; ensure individuals have the skills and tools needed to support fraud mitigation; research and understand industry best practices for fraud mitigation strategies, techniques, and risk.
  • Relationship management: Build relationships with senior leaders, executives, and regulatory bodies; establish trust and credibility; maintain productive partnerships with key areas of the business such as Operations, Credit Management, and Client Partnership to ensure comprehensive and well‑executed strategies.
  • Compliance: Research relevant regulations and work with Compliance and Operations partners to ensure strategies comply; ensure controls are in place to mitigate potential liability.

Physical Requirements

Normal office environment. Must work from the office at least five days each month even if hired into a work‑at‑home or hybrid role. In‑office work can be accomplished at a Bread Financial office, a client location if in a client‑facing role, or other necessary business travel. Ability to travel 25% of the time if not located near a Bread Financial office.

This role will have two to four direct reports and eight to twelve indirect reports in the function.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in Business Management, Statistics, Mathematics.
  • Seven years or more work experience directly related to the role and five years minimum supervisory experience.
  • Seven years or more experience demonstrating understanding of risk management, analytic practices, and fraud risk concepts. Proven success in analyzing large amounts of data to foster actionable decisions.
  • Experience managing data analysts or statisticians with the capacity to provide guidance and insight.
Preferred Experience
  • Master’s in Business Management, Statistics, Mathematics.
  • Ten years or more in Fraud Risk and/or Credit Risk.
