Accountant/Fiscal Analyst

The Agency's mission is to be boldly innovative in improving the health and quality of life for South Carolinians. This position is located in Accounting Operations, Richland County. This is an in-office role and not a telecommute or remote position. Are you the One? We are looking for an Accountant/Fiscal Analyst, who will be responsible for performing accounting duties relating to the processing and deposit of all agency receipts, this includes the proper classification and posting of accounting receipts in SCEIS and internal accounting system.

The analyst will distribute detailed revenue reports and work with program staff to resolve discrepancies. This position will also be responsible for the set-up, maintenance, and collections of miscellaneous accounts receivable to include but not limited to interdepartmental transfers. Also, includes related debt collections, maintaining aging of receivables and proper file documentation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing, and imaging of all agency refund receipts, accounts receivable and other revenue. This includes opening/logging mail, sorting and scanning checks along with appropriate backup and depositing all daily receipts. Processing includes reconciliation and correcting entries as needed to ensure proper classification of receipts.
  • Maintaining proper aging of accounts receivable to ensure timely collection of debts. This includes monitoring of posted payments and other financial transactions to ensure accurate reduction of debt, and conducting research as required. Analyst will be responsible for submitting gross level adjustments to collect MMIS over payments. Also Includes verification and documentation of financial transactions.
  • Providing customer service by answering phone calls, returning phone calls and emails within 24 hours, as well as working in harmonious and professional relationships.
  • Training and cross training in all aspects of account receivables and with cash receipts while maintaining proper separations of duties. Maintain all internal controls as it related to the Accountant/Fiscal Analyst II functions. Also, maintain current desk procedures for all assigned functions. Employee must also attend at least 20 hours of professional development courses, conferences or webinars in a given fiscal year.

Perform additional duties as assigned within the specified timeframe and according to the directions made available at the time of the assignment.

  • A high school diploma and professional experience in a related area such as accounting, auditing, finance or commercial lending. A bachelor's degree in accounting finance, business or related field can be substituted for the professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of state government fiscal accounting processes and knowledge of the principles, practices, theories, and terminology of accounting and financial management.
  • Competent in sound judgement and interpretation as it applies to financial procedures and regulations.
