The Sr. Manager, Accounting & Finance

The Sr. Manager, Accounting & Finance is a key finance leader responsible for strengthening NEEA’s accounting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting oversight capabilities. This role partners closely with NEEA leadership, program teams, and business partners to ensure financial resources are aligned with NEEA’s mission to advance energy efficiency across the Northwest.

The Sr. Manager, Accounting & Finance will oversee core accounting functions and lead a finance team supporting an annual nonprofit budget of approximately $50 million.

This position is based in the Portland, OR metro area, with a hybrid work location. We are looking for candidates who can meet the requirement of working at least 3 days per week onsite at NEEA’s office location. Finalists must have eligibility to work in the US as NEEA is not able to provide VISA sponsorship or have remote work outside of the US.

Salary range: $140,000 - $155,000, exempt

Salary is based on the applicants Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.

The Typical Day May Include…
  • Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll (in collaboration with HR), month-end and year-end close, audit preparation, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the Accounting team - fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the finance components of the annual budget, multi-year planning, forecasting, and financial analysis processes for a nonprofit organization with an approximately $50 million budget.
  • Provide strategic financial insight to executive leadership and program teams, including scenario analysis, variance reporting, cost trend analysis, and recommendations to improve financial performance and resource allocation.
  • Build strategic partnerships with leadership team to improve financial literacy, planning discipline, accountability, and decision-making.
  • Lead finance participation in Workday Financials, Adaptive Planning, reporting, and related systems initiatives to improve financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and decision support.
  • Establish team priorities, performance expectations, development plans, and succession strategies for the finance function.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer service, and business partnership.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting for leadership, funders, the board, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain and enhance financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting practices to support organizational growth, risk management, and operational effectiveness.
  • Partner with program and business leaders to translate financial data into actionable insights that support planning, decision-making, and mission impact.
  • Support external audits, tax filings, grant or funder reporting, and other compliance requirements in coordination with the Controller and external advisors.
  • Identify, evaluate, and communicate financial risks, opportunities, and emerging trends that may impact organizational performance and sustainability.
  • Recommend mitigation strategies and financial controls to support organizational resilience.
  • Perform other duties which may be necessary or desirable to support the organization’s success.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position manages an Accounting Team consisting of two professionals. The role is accountable for developing team capabilities, ensuring strong internal controls, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, and promoting a service-oriented finance function that enables informed decision-making across the organization.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of management experience in a finance, accounting, financial planning and analysis, or related leadership capacity.
