Company Description

The Education Foundation of Alachua County, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1986 to support Alachua County Public Schools. Its first program, the Senior Scholarship Program, provides college scholarships to local high school seniors. The Foundation later expanded to administer the state Take Stock in Children Program, offering mentoring and college scholarships to at-risk middle and high school students.

In 2001, it launched a grant program to help fund teachers’ classroom projects and supplies. Today, the Foundation continues to support educators through initiatives such as Find It & Fund It and Catalyst for Change, strengthening educational opportunities across the community.

Role Description

The Finance Manager is a full-time, hybrid role based in Gainesville, FL, with flexibility for some work from home. This role oversees day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring cash flow to support the Foundation’s programs and strategic goals. The Finance Manager prepares and analyzes financial statements, manages accounts payable and receivable, reconciles banking and investment accounts, and ensures accurate and timely month-end and year-end closes.

The role maintains compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, supports annual audits, and ensures adherence to grant and donor funding requirements. The Finance Manager collaborates with leadership and program staff, prepares financial reports and dashboards for the Board of Directors, and contributes to process improvements and internal controls.

Qualifications
  • Strong skills in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting principles and nonprofit financial reporting, including experience with audits and grant compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Excel, including spreadsheets, reports, and data analysis tools.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy in financial recordkeeping, and ability to maintain robust internal controls.
  • Effective communication skills for presenting financial information to leadership, board members, and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and build productive relationships with staff, partners, and vendors.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; CPA or nonprofit finance experience is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in the nonprofit or education sector and familiarity with donor-restricted funds and scholarship programs are preferred.
