Under the general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for executing and coordinating Finance processes related to expense reporting, student reimbursements, and credit card administration in compliance with Baker Charter Schools (BCS) financial policies and procedures.
Working closely with administration, staff, and student families, the Finance Specialist ensures that the institution makes timely and compliant payments to employees and student families, ensures accurate credit card expense coding, and helps ensure compliance with credit card policies while fostering a positive, equitable, and organized work environment. This role contributes to student success by performing key financial functions that support educators, staff, students, student families, and partners.
Functions
- Coordinate payments to employees for school-related equipment, services, and reimbursements. Ensures expenditures are timely, compliant, and recorded to appropriate accounts.
- Coordinate payments to student families for school-related equipment, services, and reimbursements. Ensures expenditures are timely, compliant, and recorded to appropriate accounts.
- Coordinate credit card transaction reporting and payments. Ensures expenditures comply with BCS policies and are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Maintain records of financial documents with appropriate supporting documentation. Analyze data in areas of responsibility to identify opportunities to improve school operations.
- Serve as an expert, point of contact, and information resource for key areas of responsibility.
- Maintain confidentiality in all areas.
- Maintain procedural documentation and work with finance team members to cross-train on all key areas of responsibility.
- Provide information, prepare periodic reports, and maintain all necessary records as requested by BCS administration, Department of Education, and auditors.
- Work with financial software vendors and users of finance data and make recommendations for enhancements to finance processes and software.
- Assist the CFO to develop, plan, and implement finance department goals and objectives; formulate, recommend, and administer policies and procedures; evaluate the effectiveness of programs and practices, and modify strategies to achieve goals.
- Contribute to the achievement of BCS's educational mission and goals by developing and implementing finance practices that are best in class, scalable, and cost-effective.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the Chief Financial Officer and Superintendent.

Travel RequirementsOccasional travel across the state for staff and in-person team meetings is required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work HazardsThe Finance Specialist works from the student center and home office. The work environment is often controlled and quiet, but will also frequently include moderate to loud noise. The work environment may include exposure to unpleasant interior temperatures, dirt, communicable diseases, and distraught or difficult individuals. The work requires regular focus on a computer screen and precise control of fingers and hand movements.
Bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting to 20 pounds may also be required on occasion.
