Budget Analyst

Reporting to the Budget Manager, the Budget Analyst is responsible for position budgeting and operational budget entry.

• Reviews hiring proposals and salary actions and verifies funding in Banner Finance.
• Works closely with Human Resources and the Payroll Office to resolve payroll issues.
• Manages positions for all assignments:
  Ensures labor distribution coding is accurate; identifies and calculates corrections to labor distribution and loads them in Banner; and establishes and funds new positions as needed.
• Processes encumbrance liquidations.
• Maintains personnel roster and vacancy reports.

• Loads budgets.
• Completes budget transfers.
• Calculates and enters course fee, lab fee and carry forward budgets.

• Completes ad hoc budget research.
• Supports the resolution of overspent budgets.
• Performs routine and ad hoc budget analysis.
• Creates and maintains procedural documentation.

• Collaborates with continuous improvement projects.
• Supports employees with budget functions in Banner.
• Sends communication and Daily Digests with budget updates and information.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar with at least 15 semester hours in accounting-related courses and at least two years of relevant institution-level business, finance, payroll and/or budget experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of the principles and theories of budgeting and financial management.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
• Exceptional organizational, customer service, and oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
• Sufficient technical skills to master software required to perform job duties.
• Ability to handle confidential information discretely.
• Ability to perform data entry with speed and accuracy.
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and work with attention to detail and accuracy.

• Accounting experience at an institution of higher education.
• Experience with Ellucian Banner Finance Software.
