Position: Security Specialist (Insider Threat)

Summary

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Inspection Division, Office of Security Programs (IS), Insider Threat Section (IST), Defensive Counterintelligence Unit (ISTB).

Duties
  • Developing and analyzing updated security business requirements for the design, implementation, and operations of the counterintelligence unit.
  • Participating in working groups, conferences, and meetings on national policies, directives, and instructions in developing security guidance and regulations that apply to the conduct of counterintelligence subject‑matter program operations, government wide.
  • Serving as a security specialist responsible for collecting and analyzing counterintelligence information for compliance with Federal and DOJ regulations and directives.
  • Managing counterintelligence training and education program required for the IST staff.
  • Keeping abreast of new and revised counterintelligence policies and regulations that affect the DEA's counterintelligence program and establishing the standards to which the programs operate.
Requirements

  • Selective Service:

  • Successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
  • May be required to serve a 1‑year probationary period or a 1‑year or 2‑year trial period, depending on the role.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation and the acquisition and maintenance of a security clearance.
  • Required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor‑vehicle operator's license while employed.
  • Eligible for telework or remote work agreements with supervisory approval; arrangements subject to locality pay area.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement.

GS‑12
  • Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS‑11 grade level. Specialized experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer experience through National Service programs or other organizations.
  • Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:
    1) Reviewing and analyzing inputs to confirm, refute, or refer items of security concern from the Insider Threat Hub for further analysis.
    2) Developing recommendations and processes to improve counterintelligence (CI) operational performance ensuring adherence to agency policies and procedures.
    3) Organizing and conducting seminars and security‑related training courses for government and/or contractor personnel.
GS‑13
  • Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS‑12 grade level. Specialized experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer experience through National Service programs or other organizations.
  • Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:
    1) Working with management to analyze, interpret, and resolve conflicting multi‑disciplined security data feeds to confirm or refute potential behaviors of security concern.
    2) Reviewing and interpreting intelligence and security information applicable to the DEA's domestic and international mission.
    3) Advising security officers and managers on new developments and advances in security, such as new techniques and systems to mitigate counterintelligence threats.
