Auditing is an excellent opportunity for innovators. It is a career in which you can take pride in the work you do and the services we perform for the citizens of Washington State. We are currently looking to fill an Assistant State Auditor position in Port Orchard, WA.
About Team Port OrchardTeam Port Orchard is one of 17 local audit teams within the Office. The team conducts accountability, financial, and federal grant compliance audits for more than 130 governments in Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson, Clallam, and portions of Pierce and King Counties. The work includes audits of cities, counties, school districts, fire districts, public utility districts, and ports.
Responsibilities- Conduct accountabilities, financial, and federal grant compliance audits for local governments.
- Provide recommendations for improvement to audit clients.
- Plan and conduct risk‑based financial and legal compliance audits of Washington state agencies and local governments.
- Perform special investigations related to citizen concerns and/or fraud.
- Collaborate with audit clients and internal teams to gather information, discuss findings, and present conclusions.
- Assist in mentoring in‑training staff at lower levels of the ranking series.

Assistant State Auditor 1
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three college‑level accounting courses. - Option 2: 4 years of business or relevant experience, with at least one year in accounting or auditing.
- Option 3:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Assistant State Auditor 2
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three college‑level accounting courses and one year of relevant experience. Government audit experience preferred. - Option 2: 5 years of business or relevant experience, with at least two years in accounting or auditing, with government audit experience preferred.
- Option 3:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Assistant State Auditor 3
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree with at least three college‑level accounting classes and two years of relevant experience. Government audit experience preferred. - Option 2: 6 years of relevant experience, with at least three years in accounting or auditing, with government audit experience preferred.
- Option 3:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

The position is based in Port Orchard, WA. The role offers a hybrid work environment with onsite, in‑office, and remote work. Onsite work requires occasional daily and overnight travel to client locations.
