Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
Responsibilities- Assist the public with circulation of materials including charging, discharging, and library card registration.
- Provide technology assistance and quick reference support via the Integrated Library System, online public access computers, self‑checkout machines, copiers, website, and databases.
- Resolve patron questions related to accounts, overdue or missing materials, fines, fees, cash register, card reader, and bank deposits.
- Train volunteers and assign tasks.
- Support understaffed library locations and complete special projects.
- Assist with library programs both within and outside the library.
- Empty book drops, shelve, sort, answer phones, ship, and route materials to other locations.
- Assist with bus pass sales, voter registration, passport applications, and other revenue‑generating opportunities.
- Prepare and receive office supplies and maintain effective relations with coworkers, the public, and vendors.
- Support APL's diversity and inclusiveness initiatives and ensure excellent customer service.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one year of customer service and/or library experience.
- Valid State of Alaska driver’s license at the time of hire.
- Passport Acceptance Agent Certification within six months of hire.
- Completion of a satisfactory national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
- Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA applicants.
- Military service interview preference:
Veterans or individuals currently serving in the National Guard or organized military reserves must provide documentation of honorable discharge or current service, as required by Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head.
