Within DCWP, the Licensing Division is the central operational hub responsible for ensuring that businesses across New York City meet the legal requirements to operate fairly, safely, and in compliance with local law. Through licensing more than 45,000 businesses in over 45 industries, the Division ensures fair competition and a level playing field for responsible small businesses that are integral to New York City's vibrant communities.

The Division is the first point of contact for businesses navigating the licensing process, and it plays a critical role in upholding the integrity of the marketplace by making compliance accessible, efficient, and equitable.

The Licensing Division supports DCWP's broader mission of protecting New Yorkers by ensuring that every business that needs to be licensed operating in the five boroughs has met the standards required to serve the public with integrity.

The Licensing Division's Hotel Unit is seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Assistant Supervisor to support licensing operations. The Assistant Supervisor serves a critical function, ensuring that applicants receive accurate, complete service so that their licenses can be issued without unnecessary delays or follow-up.

• Assisting the supervisor in assigning tasks, monitoring progress, providing guidance, and ensuring timely completion of work;
• Assist in identifying administrative and operational problems and providing recommendations for efficiency;
• Under supervision, perform clerical work including complex data processing functions, recording, researching, checking and maintaining records and furnishing information to licensing applicants;
• Assist in developing, documenting and implementing internal systems, policies, and procedures that help to organize and guide the division’s work and operations, document database issues, and improve overall performance;
• Check records for accuracy of information and for conformity with established policy and procedures;
• Monitor and provide coaching to other staff;
• Perform ordinary mathematical computations while accepting and processing payments, completing close outs, and other tasks as assigned;
• Provide high-volume customer service to licensing applicants in person and via phone;
• Assist applicants with outreach to other city agencies, as well as interagency communication to help resolve issues pertaining to their license;
