The City Income Tax Bureau at the Michigan Department of Treasury is hiring two Departmental Technicians to support Compliance and Collections. We’re looking for detail-oriented, customer-focused individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing, assessing, and processing returns from compliance activities
- Processing taxpayer correspondence
- Identifying complex issues that need additional attention
- Supporting continuous improvement through procedures, training materials, job aids, and special projects

EducationEducation typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience Departmental Technician 7One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 7-level in state service.
Departmental Technician 8One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 8-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience as a technician or paraprofessional equivalent to the entry level in state service.
Departmental Technician E9One year of experience as a supervisor of administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
One year of experience performing administrative support activities equivalent to the 9-level in state service.
OR
Two years of experience as a technician or paraprofessional, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate level in state service.
Departmental Technician 7Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits) may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Departmental Technician 8Possession of a bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Departmental Technician E9Possession of a bachelor’s degree and one year of job-related experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Work must be performed in the state of MichiganTo perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you currently reside outside of the State of Michigan, you must commute to Michigan to perform the responsibilities and duties of this position at your official work location.
Remote WorkTo perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, all work must be performed in Michigan. If you are a State of Michigan resident, this position is eligible for remote work up to five days per week. Please note that occasional onsite work will be required. Additionally, the selected candidate must have a secure, safe and appropriate designated workspace that allows privacy and prevents distractions while performing the duties of this position, as well as secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
Remote Work approval is at the discretion of the appointing authority and is subject to change and can be ended at any time for any reason. Please note that remote work is not available if you reside outside of the State of Michigan.

InterviewsInterviews may occur virtually using Microsoft Teams. No prior experience with Teams is necessary, as instructions and tips will be provided to all candidates scheduled for an interview.
