Coding Educator, HB Coding, Full-time, Remote (IL, IN, IA, WI)

At Northwestern Medicine, the Coding Educator leads the effort to improve clinical documentation and coding quality across the organization. The role collaborates with clinical teams, coding staff, and leadership to develop educational programs that address performance gaps and support best practices in clinical documentation and coding.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with leadership across regions to develop educational programs targeting identified opportunities for improvement in clinical dashboard results.
• Identifies strategic plans that positively impact the clinical dashboard and collaborates with clinical teams to secure resources necessary for successful implementation of education strategy initiatives.
• Performs audits, analyzes dashboard and audit data, and constructs action plans to achieve overall strategic targets.
• Onboards new staff on coding protocols and develops teaching tools to promote quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• RHIT, RHIA, CCM, or CCS certification.
• Associate’s Degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Five years of coding experience in the area of expertise.
• Strong personal computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
• Planning and time management skills; experience in educational/training activities.
