Medical Billing Specialist

Join our team in assisting patients resolving their medical bills. This is a work-from-home position with occasional meetings in Northern Utah. Due to operations requirements, the candidate must be located in Northern Utah (Layton to Logan.) Be sure to complete the pre-screening questions to verify eligibility.

15-25 hours per week

• Review and verify patient medical accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
• Review CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to medical procedures and diagnoses for precise billing.
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims promptly, performing medical collections when necessary to recover outstanding balances.
• Maintain detailed records of all billing activities, including claim submissions, adjustments, and payments received.
• Receive patient phone calls to resolve outstanding balances.
• Some knowledge of medical terminology is helpful but not required, specifically the medical pathology field
• Experience with customer service, preferably on the phones
• Very comfortable with technology; email, Office products, scanning, internet research
• Some knowledge in ICD (International Classification of Diseases), CPT coding, DRG systems, and ICD coding standards (ICD-9/ICD-10) is helpful but not required
• Familiarity with medical billing procedures, including claim submission, follow-up, appeals, and collections
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to prevent errors in billing processes
• Team-player mentality and willing to learn new things
• High integrity for a remote working position
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients
