Job Description
The Remote Inpatient Medical Coding Auditor is responsible for reviewing and auditing inpatient hospital coding to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. This role supports revenue integrity by identifying coding errors, trends, and opportunities for improvement while maintaining high standards of data quality and compliance.
The auditor conducts detailed reviews of inpatient records coded in EPIC, validating ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, and procedural code assignments, sequencing, and documentation support. The role requires strong analytical skills, advanced knowledge of inpatient coding standards, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Perform inpatient audits, conducting full‑record reviews to validate ICD‑10‑CM/PCS coding and DRG accuracy and compliance.
- Review work of assigned coders, providing oversight and quality checks for 4–5 inpatient coders across 12 facilities.
- Use Streamline Health’s Evaluator tool, leveraging automated audit rules to review flagged items and manage coder agreement or dispute of findings.
- Ensure coding compliance and accuracy by checking all assigned codes against official guidelines, regulatory requirements, and documentation standards.
- Provide quality scoring and follow internal grading organization standards to maintain accuracy and consistency.
- Communicate and collaborate with coders by sharing audit results, explaining discrepancies, and offering education as needed.
- Work efficiently in EPIC, navigating inpatient charts, documentation, and coding workflows.

- Minimum of three (3) years of inpatient hospital auditing experience
- Must have experience using EPIC
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft 365 Suit
- Either a RHIT, RHIA, CCA, or CCS, Certification(s) from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and/or CPT;
Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures affecting the coding process - Proficient knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical terminology
- High School Diploma or GED
