- Technical Deliverables and Oversight – Build EHS capabilities and infrastructure as needed; conduct risk assessments and internal inspections; maintain required records and permits; ensure timely reporting to regulatory agencies; manage hazards and hazardous waste; maintain CA occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs; plan and coordinate emergency drills and response team preparation activities.
- Performance Metrics – Track safety KPIs, report to management, and drive continuous improvement across all programs and activities with pragmatism.
- Onsite Presence – This is an onsite role at our San Diego site with no hybrid or remote working. Travel to our Bay Area site is required.
- Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
- Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering, or safety discipline. Advanced degree a plus.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in EHS, with demonstrated experience in a leadership role.
- Experience developing and implementing EHS programs, ideally for biotech (particularly in pharmaceutical/drug development) startup laboratory operations.
- Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to health, safety and environment for pharmaceutical company startup laboratory operations.
- Preferred certifications include CPBCA, CIH, and CHMM.

- Thrives in a high accountability and fast‑paced environment.
- Excels at communication, collaboration, project management, and leading through influence at all levels of an organization. Pragmatic decision‑maker.
- Proven track record of managing an EHS team.
