Responsibilities

This senior level recognized resource position will function as Michigan’s sole Chemical Threat Response Training Coordinator for the CDC Public Health Emergency Preparedness cooperative agreement. The position will coordinate statewide implementation of project activities, coordinate with other public health, hospital, and commercial diagnostic laboratories, develop protocols for specimen collection, handling and shipment, conduct in‑service training, conduct meetings and evaluate laboratory preparedness activities program for the detection and identification of chemical agents of terrorism.

The coordinator will also work with first responders when they encounter potential hazardous situations. Duties require good familiarity with clinical toxicology or analytical chemistry methods and instrumentation; competence in LRN‑C methods, extensive knowledge of clinical lab sciences and operations; and experience meeting grant/program objectives. Collaboration with the Division of Chemistry & Toxicology, Division of Infectious Disease, MDHHS Epidemiology, MDHHS Environmental Health Bureau, and MDHHS Division of Emergency Preparedness & Response is required, as well as coordination with Hazmat/First Responders, Department of Environmental, Great Lakes & Energy, and Michigan State Police.

Required Education And Experience
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, forensic science, or a related pure or applied science.
  • Three years of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests, analyses, or production and research activities involving chemical, biochemical and biological samples, specimens, and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist P11.
Additional Requirements And Information

The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre‑employment, random, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, return‑to‑duty and follow‑up drug and/or alcohol testing.

The physical location of this position is 3350 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Lansing, MI.
