Position OverviewThis advanced level position serves as the state’s Primary Prevention Public Health Consultant in the Cancer Prevention and Control Section (CPC). The consultant functions as the Program Director for the WISEWOMAN program, funded by the CDC. Responsibilities include administratively managing federal grant requirements, facilitating communication with CDC project officers, providing timely reports, offering technical assistance to local health and community‑based agencies, overseeing data collection and analysis, leading policy and systems change for cardiovascular and chronic disease risk reduction, and promoting evidence‑based interventions that align with other CDC‑funded chronic disease programs.
The role also addresses health equity, the social determinants of health, and strives to reduce cancer health disparities through high‑level work with local, state, and national partners.

Possession of a master’s degree in public health, health communication, health services administration, community development, urban planning, population and health sciences, international studies, political science, health policy, nursing, epidemiology, health education, health economics, dietetics/nutrition management, genetics, speech and audiology, social work, counseling, education, special education (specialization in blind/visual disabilities), public or business administration with a health care concentration.
ExperienceFour years of professional experience as a consultant in a field of public health equivalent to a Public Health Consultant, including two years equivalent to a Public Health Consultant P11 or one year equivalent to a Public Health Consultant P12.
Additional Requirements And Information Position Location/Remote OfficeThe physical location of this position is 320 S. Walnut St, Lansing MI. Remote work and hybrid schedules may be considered within operational limits. Approved remote or hybrid candidates must work within Michigan and confirm location and schedule at interview.
ResponsibilitiesEmployees will be provided computers for state work and may receive phones for necessary communications. Remote employees are responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:
- A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
- A high‑speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
- Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
