Overview
Sentara is currently hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital on Cardiac Unit 2 West.
Hours/ShiftFull-time, dayshift. Approximately 6:45am to 7:15pm
LocationVirginia Beach, VA
Department/Position Overview2 West is a 34-bed medicine unit with a primary cardiac focus. Our team works with hospitalists and cardiologists to care for congestive heart failure, angina, STEMI/NSTEMI, and arrhythmia patients. We recover patients who have just undergone cardiac catheterizations, pacemaker insertions, ablations, and cardioversions. Aside from the excellent care we provide, we have a diverse team of nurses and patient care technicians.

Patient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members who are accountable to, and work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. They provide patient care, support the admissions and discharge process, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse, observing patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and reporting any changes to the nurse.

EducationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification/Licensure- American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire
- Must have one of the following:
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program beyond prerequisites having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
- Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
One year of prior health care experience preferred.
