Certified Nursing Assistant​/Nursing Student PER DIEM- BWFH East

Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Assistant (PCA) functions as a member of the patient care team, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCA supports the RN with clinical tasks and responds to patient and family needs, contributing to efficient unit operation and the Patient and Family Centered Care Model.

Prior CNA/PCA experience is preferred.

• Provision of a safe environment: anticipate and identify patient safety risks, use proper body mechanics, round and return loose oxygen cylinders to storage, and clear hallways of clutter.
• Organizational ethics: interact professionally with patients, families, and staff; respect diversity; deliver non-judgmental care; maintain confidentiality; work cooperatively and resolve conflicts with RN or leadership as needed; wear visible hospital I.D. badge.
• Management of information: review policies and procedures; access staff notices via hospital e-mail; maintain timely verbal communication with the RN; notify the RN of significant changes or alarms; collect and record patient data according to documentation standards.
• Collaborative interdisciplinary care: maintain teamwork; transport patients and equipment; ensure patient safety when moving or unattended.
• Patient/Family education: provide non-clinical information to patients and families; reinforce nurse-provided education and offer basic patient care instruction (e.g., call light usage and safety).
• Competency:
  
  comply with practice standards, policies, procedures, and regulations; maintain competencies in relevant clinical skills including EKGs, blood glucose monitoring, dressings, and Heartsaver CPR/AED.
• Skills/competencies: adhere to CARE standards;
  English language proficiency; pass clinical competency, math and reading testing; basic math for measurements; interpret medical terminology; physical ability for patient handling; effective communication; organizational skills; ability to manage stress.
